A Good Time at the February Queens Swap

What a great time was had at the Queens Swap last weekend! There was a whole lot of good food, great company, and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves and each other. Thanks again to Sweet Afton for hosting us – I ended up swapping one of my water kefir pops for a glass of their amazing hand muddled lemonade. It’s seriously good stuff.

Winter 2012 Queens Swap Is Days Away

As you may have noticed on social media, we announced the upcoming Queens Swap, which is scheduled for this weekend!  From 4-6:30pm on Sunday, February 19, we’ll be swapping at one of our favorite spots in Astoria, Sweet Afton (30-09 34th Street, Astoria). The owners have been incredibly generous in lending us the space and we are grateful for their support.

We welcome you to come and swap with us! Bring something homemade, homegrown, or personally foraged, and leave with some new-to-you tasty treats.  Meet your neighbors and connect with others interested in swapping and alternative food systems. And be sure to enjoy some of the delicious food and drink from Sweet Afton’s menu - we recommend the burger, fried pickles, mac & cheese, and spicy margarita.

November Queens Swap

Just in case you haven’t see it on Facebook and Twitter, we’re having another food swap! This time we’ll be at Sweetleaf Cafe in Long Island City. It will be on Sunday, November 13 from 4-6:30pm.

Our last couple of swaps have been a lot of fun – perhaps small, but that just means it’s easier to meet and connect with other swappers! People have brought some amazing things – delicious granola, spicy pepper jam, herb salt, sauces, cookies. It’s so exciting to see what each person brings to share.

Our September Swap Announcement

We’re pleased to announce that our next Queens Swap will be Saturday, September 17, 2011, from 4-6:30pm. This time we’re holding the swap at Fresh Start Market, a lovely natural foods market on 23rd Ave in Astoria. We’ll be taking advantage of the late summer warm weather, and holding the swap out in Fresh Start’s back patio.

September Queens Swap

One of the great things about Fresh Start is that they make a lot of delicious food there on site. We’ll be enjoying some of their refreshments during the swap, and will be collecting donations to help with costs. At the same time, we’ll be supporting a wonderful local business in Astoria, so it’s win-win for everyone!

First Swap Afterglow

Well our first Queens Swap happened last Sunday, and we are filled with warm fuzz. We had a great time meeting and swapping homemade goodies at Queens Kickshaw in Astoria.

Queens Swap Tomorrow!

Hello swappers! We are really looking forward to the inaugural Queens Swap tomorrow – this is the very first food swap in Queens, and we couldn’t be prouder about that. Headcount as of this writing is 22 swappers, which we think is pretty darn excellent, especially for a first event.

We’re also really honored grateful and happy to be doing this event at the Queens Kickshaw, a wonderful new cafe in Astoria.  This is a place that is serious about their coffee and grilled cheese sandwiches. They’ve been open a couple of months and have already garnered a lot of great press from bloggers and media heavy hitters alike. Welcome to the home of Queens Swap, a bi-monthly food swapping event based in the borough of Queens, NY.  What is a food swap?  We gather together and swap homemade food for food and have fun.
